How much water should I drink after a massage?
Ever heard you should drink eight glasses of water a day? While it is a good goal to aim for, the amount of water you actually need depends on your body weight, height, and gender. Other factors may include: how active you are, if you are an athlete, or the weather. For example, if it is summer you are usually sweating more often and therefore need to keep more hydrated.
This being said, how much water you should drink after a massage is all these factors plus considering that you have just “exercised” your muscles. Water after a massage helps your muscles move easier, keeps you from becoming too sore after the massage, and makes your massage more worthwhile because they will be easier to stretch and manipulate hydrated muscles.
The recommended amount would be 50 ounces a day for a woman weighing 100-120 pounds, 75 ounces for a woman over 120 pounds. For a man weighing 200 pounds, 100 ounces is recommended and 150 ounces for over 250 pounds.
Symptoms that you need to drink more water throughout the day can be fatigue, dry mouth, fast heartbeat, dry skin, headaches, dizziness, muscle cramps, and others.
Keep hydrated and you will benefit greatly from massage therapy, plus you will feel better being hydrated. Remember that drinks with caffeine do not count, as they can dehydrate you more.
