Boredom can be a difficult problem to deal with, especially if you don’t know where to start to overcome it. Believe it or not, boredom can lead to diminished energy levels. Just as your body needs exercise to stay healthy, your brain needs some stimulation as well. Outside of work, you need to allow your brain to have some time to relax and focus on a variety of stimuli.

One key factor in avoiding boredom is to get offline. Put the smartphone away and turn off your computer. Technology can be a passive means of providing entertainment, and does little to engage your brain. Focus on other activities such as arts and crafts, or reading a magazine or newspaper. Perhaps try reading a new author or a explore a different genre of fiction.

Teaching yourself something new can also keep boredom away, as it focuses all of your attention on the activity before you. Don’t worry about not getting it right the first time. Allowing yourself to make mistakes will help you to learn what can be done better next time, so don’t let the fact that it’s not perfect dissuade you from trying again later. You’ll not only stave off boredom, but you will have learned a new skill in the process.

Boredom can sometimes lead to crankiness, and that can affect your personal relationships. Don’t let your mood control your interactions with other people. Instead, try a little meditation to calm you down, and focus on why you’re feeling irritated in the first place. Pinpointing the problem to boredom can help you to figure out the next step in eliminating your boredom.

Lastly, try a change of scenery. Going for a walk or rearranging a room can make all the difference in the world in stimulating your brain. There will be new sights and stimulations for your senses, and even just having your room in a different layout can make it much easier for you to tackle certain problems that you’re facing instead of procrastinating.

Boredom can make it easier for you to procrastinate when you need to get work done. But by keeping your brain engaged at comfortable levels, you can complete tasks much faster and with a clearer head.
