Why HIIT Can Be The Perfect Way To Rev Up Your Workout

If you are unfamiliar with the very powerful ‘HIIT’ workouts, then it is time to get acquainted with them. ‘HIIT’ stands for ‘High Intensity Interval Training’ and these workouts can quickly whip your body into shape and help you to look and feel your best. The good thing to know about these workouts is that they may not take as long to perform in terms of time spent at the gym, but they are going to work you hard at an intensity that may be new to you.

The key here is ‘intervals’; that means that you are usually mixing in a combination of short bursts of cardio movements with strength training. You are making the most of every single minute of this workout, because although it may be shorter in duration, it is higher in intensity. This is also about adding in combination movements rather than just working one muscle group at a time. So think of squats with a hammer curl or lunges with a fly as good examples of movements you may perform.

These Are Shorter But Challenging Workouts

The intensity is what keeps these workouts hard and effective. So you may move from strength training and incorporating combination movements into a minute interval of running fast in place. You get little to no rest in between the intervals, and so you quickly transition from one movement to the next and push yourself along the way.

People love these workouts because it does not take as long to get fit—but mostly because it asks your body to change in the most effective way possible! You are getting every muscle group in the body in on the movements so you are shedding fat and adding muscle definition, and the cardio intervals help to burn calories and keep you moving and your heart pumping. This is one amazing workout!

If you are unsure of how to get started, try a local class or even find a good workout DVD as HIIT workouts have become quite popular. These are definitely intense and therefore not for the beginner, but they will take your workout to a whole new level. If you have hit a plateau or if your workout needs some rejuvenation, then HIIT workouts are by far the best way to go—try them and you will see for yourself!
