Foods to Boost Your Energy Levels

Low energy levels and fatigue are a common symptom that many people experience for several reasons. One of the main causes of low energy is diet. Eating the wrong foods can definitely cause energy levels to drop off, while eating the right foods can result in an increase in energy.

If you have been experiencing low energy levels and you are not sure why, the easiest place to start is to look at your diet. Several foods, including a wide range of fruits and vegetables, can have an energy boosting effect, and most importantly natural foods are usually digested more slowly than processed foods. This provides you with a more consistent level of energy throughout the day.

Yogurt

Yogurt is one of the best foods that can boost your energy levels, and Greek yogurt in particular is packed with protein. Greek yogurt has up to 20 grams of protein per 6 ounce serving depending on the brand, and when you combine it with berries or other fruits it can keep you full for several hours without any drop off in energy. Try natural brands or organic brands and avoid the brands that add sugar.

Nuts

Nuts are an excellent source of consistent energy and they provide fibre, protein, healthy fat, vitamins and minerals. There are few foods that are as energy dense and nutritious as nuts, and an added bonus is that they don’t require refrigeration and can be taken anywhere. In particular, almonds, cashews, macadamia nuts, pine nuts, and pistachios are excellent energy boosting foods and have many health benefits.

Fruit

Virtually every fruit is a great energy boosting snack, and eating a piece of fruit is always much better than eating a processed snack or a bagel for energy. Bananas, apples, pears, oranges, berries, and many other fruits are a perfect choice whenever you are hungry because they break down gradually and are high in fibre.

Fruits are a great way to satisfy your sweet tooth, and smoothies have become one of the healthiest and most delicious ways to get your daily fruit servings. Try to stick to low glycemic index fruits; some fruits such as dates and pomegranates are healthy but can lead to weight gain due to their high sugar content.
