Best Foods for Fat Loss

There are a variety of foods that you could consider adding to your diet on a regular basis for their fat-burning effects:

Best food for fat loss # 1 – Protein (chicken, turkey, beef)

Protein is a food group that includes meat, poultry, and some dairy products. Protein is considered to be one of the best foods for fat loss because it breaks down more slowly than carbohydrates and staves off hunger. Also, the process of digesting protein actually burns calories. Not all proteins are created equal in this respect: for maximum benefit, be sure to choose lean chicken (without the skin), lean meats, and low-fat dairy products. Eggs pack a good protein punch for the calories they contain. For people who do not eat meat, meat alternative products are available; however, always read the package labels carefully, for some meat alternatives also contain starchy ingredients.

Best food for fat loss # 2 – Almonds and Nuts

Almonds (which are technically in the seed family) and nuts are excellent for fat loss because they can help you stave off hunger without consuming excess calories. While almonds and nuts are an excellent food source, it is important to be aware of portion size. Nuts are dense with nutrients, but due to their high fat content they are also packed with calories. It is a good idea to measure out a couple of ounces of nuts, rather than just munch from a jar or bowl. Another aspect to watch out for is how the almonds or nuts are processed. Unsalted or lightly salted roast almonds are a good choice; avoid excessive salt or flavoured coatings.

Best food for fat loss #3 – Olive Oil

Olive oil is a good ingredient to use sparingly as part of a weight loss plan because it reduces hunger and it is full of omega 3 fatty acids. It can keep cholesterol levels under control and help you avoid overeating. It is a great addition to several foods, and if you use it in salads or as a dressing, extra virgin olive oil is a great choice. It also adds delicious flavouring if drizzled over vegetables such as eggplant, zucchini, onions and peppers and roasted in the oven. Regular olive oil is great for low temperature cooking.

Best food for fat loss #4 – Berries

Almost every type of berry is a great fat loss snack. Berries have many health benefits: they are high in fibre, combined with a relatively low sugar content compared to many other fruits. These factors give berries a low glycemic index, meaning they don’t cause spikes in blood sugar like other fruits can, and they actually help to regulate a healthy blood sugar level. They are also rich in antioxidants, which can fight cancer and prevent heart disease. Look for berries with a deep, rich colour and rinse them well before eating, especially if organic berries are not available.
