The Most Popular New Year’s Resolutions of All Time

Chances are we have all made a few of these New Year’s resolutions as it seems many of us have the same goals in mind. This is the time of year when we often reflect on the past, while looking forward to the future. So what are you resolving to do in 2014?  Here are the most popular New Year’s resolutions, in no particular order:

1. Get in Shape:

No surprise here as this is undoubtedly on most everyone’s list. Make it work this year by asking a friend to work out with you!  Or find an exercise class that you have always wanted to try. Regardless, find a way to make it happen, as this is also one of the top resolutions that are commonly broken.

2. Eat Healthy:

Vowing to eat a more balanced diet, while staying away from fast food and a menu high in saturated fats, is also one our top resolutions. A word of advice:  don’t try and eliminate all of your favourite foods at once. Try portion control and allow yourself a treat every now and then. This is a good plan to follow if you want to stay on track.

3. Less Work, More Time with Family:

Everyone is on work overload and finding it harder to spend quality time with family. Try and reserve one specific time a week where it’s mandatory family time. Try a Friday movie night, or spend Sunday afternoons doing an activity, like going to the park or playing a board game. Remember, kids grow up way too fast. Enjoy them while they still want to hang out with you!

4. Get Organized:

Yes, this is a very popular resolution, as many of us don’t enjoy living in chaos. A cluttered home creates a cluttered mind. Spend each week concentrating on organizing one room in your house. You won’t believe the difference it will make in your life.

5. Stop Smoking:

While one of the more difficult resolutions to accomplish, it is one of the best things you can do for yourself and your family. This is the year you will do it!

6. Volunteer or Donate to Charity:

This is the resolution that will make you feel good all over. There are so many worthy organizations that can benefit from your help. Ask your friends and family to join your efforts. Start a coat drive at your work or school. Put a jar in the laundry room and donate any loose change that you find in the washer and dryer to a worthy charity. Giving back is a great way to start the New Year.

Keep in mind, that whatever you resolve this year, don’t give up! Find a way to make it happen! You can do it!
