Epsom Salt

Who would have ever guessed that Epsom salts, an inexpensive product sold at your local grocery store, would have such amazing and wonderful health benefits?

Epsom salt is actually not a salt, but rather a compound of magnesium and sulfate which are easily absorbed through the skin. Magnesium can reduce inflammation, assist muscle function and prevent hardening of the arteries. Sulfates flush toxins, ease migraines and absorb nutrients. Not bad for over- the-counter merchandise!

When taking a bath, magnesium sulfate soaks into the skin and releases toxins from your body. But the benefits don’t stop there. Not only does it reduce swelling, but it also relaxes the muscles, serves as an exfoliator and so much more.

Here are some wonderful ways to use Epsom salts to achieve the maximum benefits:

Bath:  Add two cups of Epsom salts into running water for a relaxing bath. This is especially beneficial for soothing sprains and bruises.

Splinter Removal:  Soak the splinter in Epsom salts and warm water to draw out the splinter.

Foot Soak:  To soothe aching feet and remove odors while softening rough and dry skin, add 1/2 cup of salts to pan of warm water and soak.

Face:  Add half a teaspoon of salts to your nightly cleanser cream. Massage into skin and rinse with warm water.

Skin exfoliator:  Put handfuls of Epsom salts over wet skin to rub off dry, dead skin. Rinse well.

These are only a few of the wonderful benefits of Epsom salts which are versatile and very affordable as well as a healthy alternative to treating tired and sore muscles. This is one product that should be a staple in every household, right next to your first aid kit!
