Relaxing Foot Soak with Essential Oils
This is the time of the year where our feet get an endless workout. From jumping out of bed in the morning until we finally jump back in at night, our feet are in constant motion. Add uncomfortable shoes and strenuous exercise to the mix, it’s no wonder that our feet are begging for relief at the end of the day. In fact, studies show that 1 out of 6 people, primarily women, suffer from bunions, calluses and corns. Not fun at all!
Think of it this way: according to reflexology, feet represent our whole body. Soaking our vital – but often ignored – feet in a basin of warm water with Epsom salts and essential oils is one of the best therapeutic things we can do for ourselves. This is a natural and effective treatment that works wonders when our feet need some tender loving care.
Some of the best essential oils for feet include:
Lavender: It is soothing and relaxing and one of the more popular essential oils available.
Peppermint: Revitalizing and well known for its anti-inflammatory properties.
Lemon: Fresh and invigorating with a stimulant effect to wake up tired feet.
Eucalyptus: Popular for its well- known antiviral and antiseptic properties.
Rosemary: Excellent for aches and pains.
If your feet are tired, this is a wonderful soak to pamper yourself:
Fill a large basin with warm water and add blends of lavender, lemon and rosemary. A few drops of each stirred into the water will work wonders. Gently massage your feet in circular motions for an added benefit. Pat dry with a soft towel.
If your feet suffer from an infection, consider adding tea tree oil (5 drops), Rosemary (5 drops) and Lemon (3 drops) to warm water. Soak for 20 minutes. Be sure to have your doctor check in on any sores that don’t heal, or appear to be inflamed.
