5 Easy Spa Treatments to Try At Home


Wouldn’t it be wonderful if we could drop whatever we were doing at a moment’s notice and head to the nearest spa for a wonderfully relaxing afternoon of total bliss and pampering? Where do we sign up for this lifestyle?

When you feel you would love to’ indulge’ but your schedule or budget won’t allow it, keep in mind that many spa treatments can be recreated at home with little or no preparation. Here are a few ideas that are not only easy, but cost next to nothing.

Lights Off

Switch them off. Yes, it’s as easy as that. Turn the lights down to minimal and light some wonderful fragrant candles or your favorite incense. Sit in a favourite chair and just relax. This creates a welcoming transition from a busy, working day to a peaceful evening.

Steam Shower

Most of us aren’t lucky enough to have a sauna at home, but it’s easy to recreate one in your own shower. Turn the shower on at the hottest temperature you can tolerate for at least 15 minutes. As the steam builds (and being careful not to burn yourself), wet a washcloth and apply to your face. The steam from the shower as well as the warmth to your face will help loosen those tired and achy muscles and joints. For an added benefit, apply a few drops of your favorite essential oil and you have instant aromatherapy.

Hand cream

With colder days ahead, keep your hands looking their best by applying a few drops of tree oil or olive oil to your favourite cold cream. Apply liberally all over your hands and put on a pair of cotton gloves. Wrap your hands around a heating pad or a hot water bottle and sit back and watch a favorite movie as the cream soaks into your skin.

Body Oil

One of the most relaxing and soothing skin treatments is to slather your body with oil. All you need is your favourite oil, or even olive oil will do. Apply the oil all over your body just before bedtime. When you are finished, spread an old sheet or bed cover across your bed and go to sleep. As you sleep the night away, you will be delighted to discover that you have remarkably smooth and vibrant skin in the morning.

Face mask

Mix together 1 avocado, 1 tablespoon each of all natural honey and all natural yogurt and apply to your face for a healthy and beautiful glow. Avocado is regarded as an anti-aging super food because it is loaded with fatty acids, anti-oxidant phytonutrients and essential amino acids. Honey can kill germs on the skin reducing swelling and inflammation while yogurt is considered a gentle cleanser and found in many skin care products. Together, this mask cleans and hydrates while tightening wrinkles and refining pores.
